Kacymea: Welcome: Today we hear a little bit about how hard it can be to follow Jesus. Let’s think about how we can do our best to follow Jesus today and help all those who are in need. Christ Jesus, you call us to follow you and to live our lives as you want us to. Help us to answer that call even when it is hard and to help one another. Amen. Please stand and join in singing our opening song.

Lilly: First reading 1 Kings 19:16. 19-21
This reading is from the book of Kings.
God said to the prophet Elijah,
“Go and anoint Elisha. He is the one who will take your place as a prophet when you die.”
So Elijah went and found Elisha. Elisha was working in the fields, ploughing the ground. As Elijah passed by him, he threw his cloak onto Elisha’s shoulders. Elisha stopped what he was doing and ran after Elijah. When he caught up he said,
“I will come and follow you. But first let me go and kiss my mother and father goodbye.
Elijah said,
“Go, I’m not stopping you”. Elisha went and killed the oxen and prepared a meal for the people who lived there. Then he followed Elijah, and he became his helper.
This is the word of God.

Gospel: Luke 9:51-62

Riley: Pope Francis has called this year a special Year of Mercy. We are asked to draw closer to God in prayer. In this way we hope to share God’s love with all our brothers and sisters throughout the world.

Luse:By showing mercy, we are following Jesus in our lives. We are living our lives as Jesus asks us to. Please join us in singing ‘Jesus is the King’ and think about what you can do to follow Jesus

Prayers of the faithful:

Rheanna: Jesus calls us to follow him and so we pray together:
We pray for the Church throughout the world: that she may be a living example of the mercy of God, welcoming those in need, comforting the sick, sheltering the homeless and reaching out with love. Lord, in your mercy…Hear our prayer

Sandrene: We pray for refugees who have been forced to flee their homes: that they may find a place of welcome and safety. Lord, in your mercy… Hear our prayer

Chris: We pray for peace in our world: that all people may be able to live in peace and safety, free from fear. Lord, in your mercy… Hear our prayer

Mya: We pray for our parish, our friends and our family: that we may show mercy to one another and do all that we can to follow Jesus. Lord, in your mercy… Hear our prayer

Lincoln: Farewell: Thank you for celebrating Mass with us today, God of mercy, Help us to follow you and to reach out in help to all who are in need, so that through us they may know your love and mercy. Amen. Please leave quietly.
